PWNA Update

Spring 2009

Mark Your Calendars Now!

PWNA Conference 2009 is set for October 8-10

It seems like only yesterday that I had the pleasure of meeting many PWNA members and power washing industry associates at the 2008 Convention in Chicago. It is hard to believe that the ’09 Convention is now less than seven months away!

While the majority of members who attend the annual gathering leave inspired and eager to get back to their respective businesses, there is a core group of  PWNA volunteers who get right back to the business of planning the next year’s event.

Your Convention Committee will host the ’09 PWNA Convention October 8 – 10, at the same venue as last year, in Chicago, Illinois. This venue proved to work well for us and, from a financial perspective, is a prudent choice. You are welcome to provide feedback and ideas for programs and speakers for the ’09 event. Visit pwna.org and send us an email.

While plans for the ’09 Convention are well underway, we are also asking for suggestions from members on where to hold the 2010 event. If you have any ideas or preferences please let us know as soon as possible. Even in these tough economic times, convention space books up quickly and it is often necessary to secure a facility many months in advance.

Website Update

Content development and site enhancements to PWNA’s new website are on-going. We are pleased to report that several new pages have been added. We are particularly proud to now have an Environmental page, as well as News and Resources pages. Watch the News and Resources page for regular newsletters, class schedules and various articles.

The website now has opportunities for advertisers, too. If you are a supplier or manufacturer of power washing products, please check it out.

If you have anything suggestions for pwna.org, we’d love to hear them. Please don’t hesitate to contact us. Feedback, of any kind, is always appreciated. On behalf of all PWNA members, I extend heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who are working “behind the scenes” to ensure that our association presents a professional image on the world-wide-web.

NEW!! Environmental Protocol

At the 2008 Annual Convention, PWNA member Robert Hinderliter was elected to be the Association’s first Environmental Committee Chairman. Robert was selected for this position due to his success in creating a viable and effective power washing protocol for the city of Fort Worth, Texas. Robert, quite literally, “wrote the book” on environmental protection for the power washing industry and we are privileged that he has agreed to share his knowledge and resources with the PWNA.

With Robert’s guidance and support, PWNA has now established Recommended Regulations and Best Management Practices (BMPs) for Cosmetic Pressure Power Washing. These guidelines have been developed in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s  (EPA) ever-increasing enforcement of pressure washing practices. With this increased enforcement, PWNA is being pro-active to ensure the industry – and PWNA members – are provided with the latest information on the regulations that govern the pressure washing industry.

I am a firm believer in not wasting time to “reinvent the wheel.” These guidelines are now posted on the website and are a true value-added benefit of PWNA membership. The work Robert has done will save you considerable time, money and effort.  In some cases, it could even save your business! With increasing pressure from government and the community, environmental protection must be an integral part of all of our business operations. We now have a protocol that can assist operators in developing similar protocols in other cities across the United States and Canada.

PWNA Membership Unites The Industry

Presenting One Powerful Voice

A clear voice for the industry is the most important pillar of the PWNA membership. With the stroke of a pen, environmental protection laws can be passed that put a power-washing contractor out of business.

The PWNA represents every power washer business and communicates to the world that this industry is a vital part of the community. Through education, best practices and industry leaders, the PWNA represents a clear, unified voice to speak professionally and intelligently to the importance of power washing. The more members we have, the stronger and clearer our voice becomes. The stronger and clearer our voice is, the more protected and secure our businesses are. Join today and become a part of that voice and protect the investment of time and money that you have put into your business.

Accolades to the Board of Directors

The new Board of Directors elected at the 2008 Annual Convention is comprised of a dedicated and hardworking group of members. Their diligent and collaboration volunteer efforts have ensured that PWNA is once again in excellent financial shape.  This group has really pulled together and worked hard on your behalf over the past few months. PWNA is now “back in the black” and well positioned to continue to be your voice for the power washing industry.

On behalf of all PWNA members I extend my most sincere thanks for their efforts and support!
